A Books Health Check

Before anyone talks about fixing anything, you should know what is actually wrong. I review your accounting file and send you one written report: what is broken, what it would cost to fix, and what you can safely leave alone.

The report is yours either way. If you want to hand it to your CPA, or fix things yourself, or do nothing at all, that is a perfectly good outcome. There is no obligation attached to it.

Fixed fee, agreed before I start · no hourly billing

What I do

Monthly bookkeeping

Bank and credit card reconciliations, transaction coding, month-end close, and financial statements delivered by a set day each month. A short exception report every month telling you what looked unusual and what I did about it.

Catch-up and cleanup

Books that stopped reconciling six months or three years ago. Fixed fee against a stated cutoff date, so you know exactly what "done" means before work starts.

QuickBooks Online repair

Chart of accounts rebuilt into something you can read, opening balances agreed to the last filed return, bank feeds reconnected, duplicates cleared, and rules set up so the categorisation stops drifting.

Getting set up properly the first time

New business, or moving off spreadsheets. Chart of accounts built around how you actually make money, not a default template.

Contractors

If you run jobs, your books should show profit by job.

Most bookkeeping is priced and organised by transaction count. Construction's real cost driver is jobs — and a contractor with four hundred transactions across fifteen active jobs gets treated as a small client and served like one. That is why the margin on a job is usually only knowable after it closes, when it is too late to act on.

Job costing that holds up

Costs landing on the right job and the right cost code, consistently, so the job reports mean something.

Work-in-progress schedules

Percentage of completion, over- and under-billing, and cost to complete — the schedule your bonding agent and your banker both ask for.

Progress billing and retainage

AIA G702 and G703 support, and retainage tracked as a receivable rather than quietly forgotten revenue.

Committed costs

Open purchase orders and subcontracts visible against the budget, so a job going wrong shows up while there is still time to do something.

How it works
  1. Health Check A fixed fee, paid up front. You get a written report on the state of the books. No commitment past this point.
  2. Cleanup, if the report says you need it Quoted from the findings rather than a guess, with a stated cutoff date and fixed milestones. If the mess turns out to be larger than the report showed, work pauses and we agree the change in writing before anything continues.
  3. Monthly, once the books are clean A flat monthly fee on autopay. Named deliverables on a set schedule, reviewed annually, cancellable on thirty days' notice.
Get in touch

Tell me roughly what shape the books are in and what is bothering you about them. A first call is fifteen minutes and costs nothing.
